Unconditional Election

God has chosen some before the foundation of the world not based upon any merit He found in them but according to His own good pleasure and perfect will. The doctrine of election does not preclude man’s responsibility to respond and submit to God’s sovereignty but rather necessitates a total and willful surrender.

Biblical predestination does not articulate election as God’s choosing man based on man’s actions in future time. Biblical predestination is largely explained by God’s foreknowledge, and foreknowledge is explained by the term forelove, that is the eternal love and choice of the Father for those He would save in time. “Foreknowledge” (i.e. forelove) in reference to election is not explained as God’s knowledge of what man would do in the future, but rather is God’s setting His affections upon those whom He would ultimately save in the future.
